This training session is for all PSP staff.

This session is designed for PSP leaders who want to strengthen their practice in supporting young people as they transition from care.

The session offers a focused and supportive reflective practice space to explore how to craft individualised financial leaving care plans that are practical, meaningful, and responsive to each young person’s needs.

Through guided discussion and reflection, leaders will consider approaches that not only meet organisational requirements but also build their confidence and capability in ensuring young people are set up for financial stability and independence as they move into adulthood.

Safeguarding Quality Practice

This session supports practitioners and leaders to strengthen day-to-day safeguarding practice through a focus on quality, accountability and reflective decision-making.

The session explores what quality safeguarding looks like in practice, including quality case plans, family time planning, cultural consultations, documentation standards and meaningful due dates. Participants are supported to apply the Quality Assurance Framework, consider measures of wellbeing, and reflect on their role in maintaining safe, accountable practice for children and young people.
Using practical activities, discussion and coaching-based facilitation, the session supports participants to translate policy and statutory requirements into clear, consistent and defensible practice, while building confidence to navigate complex situations and difficult conversations.

Family Action Plan for Change (FAP-C)

A quality FAP-C is critical in preservation & restoration casework.  In this session, Practitioners are given the opportunity to practice what they have learned by having a crack at writing some content for a FAP-C based on a case study.  This session covers:

  • the purpose of a FAP-C
  • building adult capabilities
  • participation
  • the road map of change (storytelling)
  • simplifying complexity
  • the role of hope
  • working with Aboriginal families.

F2F Training: Making Family Time Meaningful

Making family time meaningful:

This training provides PSP casework staff and leaders with information, tools, and resources to support them in helping families and children get the most out of their family time. It will also resource practitioners to support carers in gaining skills and confidence in managing family time where it is safe for them to do so. The training explores:

  • The differences between supervising, supporting, or monitoring family time
  • Engaging children, families, and carers in decision-making around family time using the Sonya Parker Safe Contact Tool
  • Tools, resources, and tricks of the trade to create opportunities for successful family time
  • Linking the FAP-C to family time:  Family time is an opportunity for parents to demonstrate their parenting and new skills

  • identify the purpose and foundations for engaging in difficult conversations as well as how to address barriers to having meaningful conversations about difficult issues
  • provide opportunities to explore strategies and tools that enhance outcomes in partnering with families in difficult conversations that are important to positive outcomes for children and young people.
